A new Thief game will release alongside the in-development film, production company Straight Up Films claims.

Thief (the film) was announced in 2014. According Straight Up Films' official site, it will be "an action epic".

"Widely considered to be one of the greatest games ever created, a fifth sequel is currently in development to be released in step with this motion picture adaptation," the site states.

"Steeped in the steam-punk world created by the video game, the film will tell a new chapter in the storied world of the series’ hero."

We've heard nothing about the Thief film since its announce.

The last Thief game was released to mixed reviews in 2014.

"Thief is a success despite its various shortcomings," wrote Gameplanet's Chris Brown at the time.

"It is a game that presents both the best and worst that the franchise and the stealth genre have to offer, and it's set in a rich and beautifully decrepit city of promising riches and reward. If only it were a little more reliable at delivering both."

According to Steam Spy, about 1.3m copies of the game were sold via Steam.
